What a fantastic game on the weekend with our biggest winning margin this year by far 48-0. There was defninitly a focus in the team when they were warming up and talk about ensuring that we start well which is exactly what happened - so after sustained pressure and excellent patient rugby Sam Chesterman scored in the right hand corner.
So then the Captain and Vice-Captain decided to run the forwards at Chatswood and grind them down which resulted in Levi strolling over the line when a large gap opened up. Then a focus on the left hand wing and Junrey had a number of runs making half breaks and generally making the opposition fret! This pressure endded up with Charles scoring.
With such a good first half, in the past the Convicts have taken the foot off of the pedal but not this time, with tries by Gus, Gump (did that winger stand a chance really or was Gump just trying to see how far he would fly?) and congrats to Chris Rowe scoring his first try for the Convicts. We also saw a couple of trys go begging but the best part of the game was the patience and believe the team showed. Further more the work done to conter attack by Lukey was fantastic plus Junrey seemly seemlessly moving from winger to half back.
Coaches points went to: Charles Gregory & Luke Carpenter 1, Steve Thorne 2 and Levi 3 (Tommy is that correct?). I must admit the game by Levi was one of the best games I’ve seen who controlled the game from start to finish.
Bug thanks to everyone who helped out last Friday for another succesful Trivia night - we managed to beat the budget we’d set and that couldn’t have been done without: Duncan McGregor, Liam Bailey (managing bookings), Iain Jepsen, Simon Thompson and all the sexy bucket boys.

Well another good win on the weekend against Hunters Hill 10-5. The first half the Convicts really dominated with the back-row of Marty, Gus and Steve causing some havoc with also some a couple of great breaks by the backs, Charles once again causing the most problems for the opposition. The dominance by the back-row translated into tries to both Marty and Steve in the first half.
The second half was quite different as Hunters Hill bought on some fresh legs and were more aggressive in the forwards. The Convicts stood up to the increase in intensity and took it back to the Hunters Hill and Geoffie Horn very close to getting over in the corner though Hunters Hill kept us out.
The coaches points went to Charles (3), Duncan (2) for brilliant work in the second half including a brilliant memorable crunching tackle and the final point to Steve.
Don’t forget the Trivia Night on Friday night (there are a couple of tables left so ! contact Liam on manager@sydneyconvicts.org for a table)
This weekend’s game is confirmed against Chatswood at 1pm away and possibly a second game TBC.

Two games were played on the weekend with a great win by the seconds against Hunter’s Hill at Boronia Park. The team got up 14-5 with Chris busting the line on a number of occassions and two line breaks getting converted one by Marcel and the other by a Colleague (sorry I don’t know who it was). Great team work especially by the forwards again providing the platform and dominace for the backs to enjoy the possession.
The second game ended up been played at home at 3pm against Macquarie Uni which was originally due to be played in Glebe, The game started well with good dominance by the forwards and a number of breaks especially a brilliant one by Chris who offloaded to Charles for a great try. The game then started to deteriorate with some interesting calls by the ref (I am sure that looked like a try to me) but really we allowed Mac Uni to get back into the game. Macqurie Uni scored a couple of tries to end up winning 12-7.!

With only the one game on the weekend there was a great turn out from everyone to get a game. We played Roseville again up at Roseville Chase Oval. The first team was started though a couple of guys like Smurf and Matty V were out injured but also Mike Langley returned from the UK.
Previously this team we had drawn 5-5 against. The team started well and controlled the ball though couldn’t quite convert the pressure into points - in fact that was the whole first half. Though it should be said we were playing up hill and against the wind. There had been much more impact from players not usually as prominent like Jumbo and Kevin Perry but having barnstorming runs and causijng havoc.
But it was in the second half that things started to open up with a brilliant run by Charles G off a pop from Levi to run through at least 4-5 defenders. Conversion missed. Roseville came back though a move started in our half by! Levi, Charles, Junrey and Sam Chesterman finishing in the right hand corner - that was one of the best tries Convicts have scored…support play, fending and pure speed were amazing. The last try was scored by Damien in the left hand corner after some brilliant lead up work by the forwards.
The game was typical in that the forwards laid some great ground work for the backs to create the line breaks and finish off the moves. Guys this was a brilliant game where everyone from 1-15 played well and did their job.
Don’t forget:
- Fitness tomorrow night at Rushcutters Bay 6:30
- Scrum training 6pm on Thursday (guys only 2 or 3 turned up last Thu)
This weekend we have two games:
- 1st against Hunters Hill at Hunters Hill (10:30am KO) though not 100% confirmed.
- 2nds TBC
Events
- Bledisloe Cup 18th July (5:30PM kick-off - venue to watch TBC)
