Another great weekend for the Convicts and considering the weather a great turn out for the first Back to Convicts Day.

The first’s started in the wet and finished in the wet and also started with a couple of good line breaks with Levi putting Charles on one fantstic run.  Though the good start didn’t turn into points and Mosman was able to, against the run of play, break down the left wing to score in the corner.  The game then got bogged down in the mud and then some of the forwards stepped up with Kevin Perry (2 points) and Dave Whittaker putting in some great work in defense.  The second half was similar with Aron (3 points) really putting in some brilliant crash balls and controling the ball and Matty V (1 point) did some great kicking and field positioning work to get release pressure.  Following some sustained pressure they scored again with that been the final score 0-10.  It was a great game with some brilliant work by ! a lot of the pods in the team though we weren’t able to convert pressure into points.

The seconds had a great game with a few of the firsts backing up, Paulie, Levi, Marty, Marcel, Chris Leesa, Smurf, Murray, (sorry if I missed you off the list).  The points went to Marcel (3 points), Marty (2 points), Levi (1 points).  Some great work especially by the forwards, defense and communication was brilliant.  Marcel was very effective all over the field with Marty commitment on show continuously.

..Levi played well controlling the game, knowing that in the wet the forwards needed to control the ball and use the backs when appropriate.  Junrey made a line break and combined with the briliantly supporting Geoffie to score under the posts.  The second try was similar with Junrey combining to get Simon away.  So the final score was 10-0…the third win of the season against UNSW.

Thank you to all who helped out getting Back to Convicts Da! y happening:
- Ben E on the BBQ
- Gordon + friends on the coffee cart
- Duncan & Fuzz for been behind and closing the bar (or was that just because they wanted to keep drinking)

The results weren’t brilliant though some great rugby was played by the club on the weekend:

Convicts 1’s VS Colleagues 5th Grade
Defeated: 15-39
Tries: Charles Gregory, Aron Warren & Levi Kalepo (no conversions)
Player Points:
3 - Gus Donald
2 - Ben Clay (Gump)
1 - Charles Gregory

Convicts 2nds VS Mosman
Defeated: 0-38
Player Points:
3 - Duncan McGregor
2 - Levi Kalepo
1 - Geoff Horn

The 1sts played a really tough game against a well drilled 5th grade who counter attacked very well.  The Convicts main strike weapon was their fantastic scrummaging (congrats to Jumbo, Dave W and Fezz - plus Paul Corey and Murray Lawson) which demolished Colleagues.  In fact Colleagues had to go uncontested early in the 2nd half when their second prop limped off the field.  Some great lines were run especially by Charles who scored the first Convicts try with a brilliant cut inside run to score under the p! osts (his conversion wasn’t quite as good as the run).

In the second half the Convicts’ forwards started to dominate and Gump put on a two ferocius hits and a great run to set up the great crash over by Aron.  The 1sts shoudl be very happy with the overall performance against a tough side which fielded players that had game time in Colleagues 1sts later that day.
